Originally from Austin, Texas, Rae Srivastava began his dance training with Cheryl Copeland. During high school, as his commitment to dance intensified, he found an equivalent devotion to the humanities. By continuing his education at USC Kaufman, he was able to pursue both of these vocations, interweaving these disparate fields into a cohesive curriculum. Due to a generous scholarship, Rae was afforded the opportunity to pursue his Master’s in Legal Ethics while he concludes his rigorous BFA studies. During his time at USC Kaufman, Rae has studied under a diverse range of influential artists including William Forsythe, Jermaine Spivey, Jodie Gates, Thomas McManus, Bobbi Jene Smith, Bruce McCormick and Fiona Lummis. Rae is inveterately interested in the ways that dance, as a reflection of its societal context, can elicit positive change. As such, he aims to devote his senior thesis to this philanthropic pursuit. Along with two of his peers and a host of performing and visual artists, he will be hosting a fundraising gala to benefit the Los Angeles chapter of Planned Parenthood. After a fruitful and protracted career as a performing artist, Rae hopes to earn his J.D. and offer legal advisement to nonprofits involved in artistic outreach.
