USC community gets ready to Dance On!
April 22, 2016
Beginning Thursday April 21, USC Kaufman will hold a celebration of dance across campus. Dance On! Week is organized in partnership with USC Performing Arts Committee, on-campus dance clubs and Visions and Voices.
The mission of Dance On! Week is to engage students through dance and involve them in the diverse opportunities that the evolving and dynamic art form provides.
“Before Kaufman, there was already a vibrant and robust dance community at USC, and we are very interested in bringing together various dance organizations, clubs and anybody affiliated with dance here on campus,” said Anne Aubert-Santelli, Director of Admission and Student Services at USC Kaufman. “Our larger mission as a school is to define what dance is for the university and this is a great start.”
A series of participatory events will open a space for students of all majors to connect with one another, share ideas and love for dance, and showcase their work.
“I am really excited about this event,” said Alan Lau, Computer Science Major and Director of USC Street Dance Society. “I hope this event showcases what USC’s freestyle hip-hop dance community has to offer to students, and that it will encourage even more people to be a part of it.”
What to expect from Dance On! Week
The celebration kicks off at Bovard Auditorium at 7 p.m. with USC’s Best Dance Crew, an exciting and competitive event organized by the Performing Arts Committee.
On Friday, April 22, at 5:30 p.m., non-major students currently taking dance classes, will have the opportunity to show what they have learned in The Elective Experience, with a series of presentations at PED 207.
During Dance On! Week every day is a good day for a dance party. On Monday, April 25, join us at Tommy Trojan at 12:00 p.m. to dance with DJ CAFE 84. Don’t be late! There will also be a surprise element that you won’t want to miss.
