Nina Gumbs hails from the east coast, having grown up in the Washington, DC area suburbs where she first began her training at the age of seven. After attending, the Alvin Ailey summer program as a scholarship recipient in high school, Nina was inspired to pursue a dance education at the prestigious USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance BFA program in Los Angeles, Calif. Nina’s training is a rainbow of exposure including jazz, ballet, hip-hop, house, locking, modern, contemporary, heels, commercial dance and musical theatre. As a student at USC, Nina has been privileged to train and work with artists such as d. Sabela grimes, Saleemah E Knight, E. Moncell Durden, William Forsythe, Jodie Gates, Patrick Corbin, Thomas McManus, Fiona Lummis, Amy O’Neal and Tiffany Bong. Nina’s training in the USC Kaufman program includes performance of repertoire by Jiři Kylián of Nederlands Dans Theater, Bret Easterling of the Batsheva Dance Company, Paul Taylor, Barak Marshall and Hope Boykin of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Nina’s time in Los Angeles has opened many doors including the opportunity to choreograph and perform for a wide range of projects across the city. Nina’s style as a dancer is versatile and unique. The love and passion she has for dance influences the way she teaches and mentors as she continues to strive to be one of the best at her craft.
