Chase Peterson grew up in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, where he discovered his passion for creation, movement, and art in elementary school. He trained in his high school years at Larkin Dance Studio in Maplewood, MN. After graduating high school, he advanced his dance education at the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance in Los Angeles, California, where he broadened his interests in concert dance and choreography. During his time at Kaufman, he has had the opportunity to learn and perform repertoire by Paul Taylor, Dwight Rhoden, Justin Peck, Jiří Kylián, and Kyle Abraham. USC has provided Chase the space to be part of many processes that opened doors to the way he interrogates his own choreographic aesthetic.

Chase has had the fortunate chance to be part of Moving Arts Summer Company for the 2022 season as a guest artist. He also was granted the opportunity to research contemporary dance and repertoire by Mehdi Walerski at the Ballet BC 44 Summer Intensive. These artistically enriching experiences have especially inspired Chase to gravitate towards concert dance performance, which he specifically hopes to pursue post-graduation.

In addition to Chase’s goal to pursue concert dance, he also wishes to create work that uplifts embodied dance practices as a gay male identifying person. The work he creates is housed in movement language that utilizes elements of contemporary dance, somatic movement, and choreographic themes communicating narratives from personal stories and lived experiences.
