Large Performance Space, Glorya Kaufman International Dance Center
849 W. 34th Street
Los Angeles, CA 90089
Kaufman Converge merges the formats of performance, salon, and lecture demonstration while pairing two artists who embody and work through multiple movement forms and dance ecologies. By sharing their artistry and personal stories, we learn about the vast and unique ways to make a life in dance and expand our capacity to see dancers as multifaceted global citizens and agents of change. Curated and facilitated by choreographer, dancer, and Kaufman Lecturer Amy O’Neal.
On February 1, we welcome Randi “Rascal” Freitas and Kumari Suraj.
Freitas is a versatile dancer, choreographer, and master educator based in Los Angeles, CA. She has performed with artists such as Justin Timberlake, SZA, Travis Scott, Karol G and Kaytranada, and can be seen in commercials for AT&T, Toyota and Target, among other accolades.
Suraj is a non-binary choreographer, creative director, songwriter, LGBTQ+ activist, and personality. A vibrant mix of Afro-Caribbean, South Asian, Native American, and European heritage, Suraj’s work reflects their exploration of life and celebration of their cultural background. They are the creator and founder of the world’s first queer dance festival, Waackfest, and are celebrating a 20-year tenure as a practitioner, innovator and pioneer within Waacking culture.
Kaufman Converge is facilitated by choreographer, performer, and USC Kaufman Lecturer Amy O’Neal.
Schedule subject to change.
