South Asian Summit on Dance
October 3, 2024
Thursday, October 3, 2024 | 7:30-9:30 PM
Glorya Kaufman International Dance Center
The first South Asian Summit on Dance brings together dance makers, performers, and educators in one space to ruminate on and discuss what unites and empowers us.
Achinta S. McDaniel moderates a panel of diverse South Asian dance practitioners, including Chase Constantino, Payal Kadakia, Aparna Ramaswamy, and Bushra Khan, and other special guests to unpack the scarcity myth in the South Asian dance community, and how we can work together to upend systemic inequities to uplift diverse and incredible voices.
Commercial, concert, and participatory dance practice make up the Los Angeles dance scene. The South Asian Summit will touch on all of these during a Q&A with USC students and members of the LA dance community, followed by an interactive dance experience.
This is a space to come together to reintroduce ourselves in our nuanced identities and intersections, reveal our multiplicity, and ignite our joy.
And no South Asian event is complete without food! All summit guests are invited to a private reception with light food and refreshments, and dancing to the sounds of DJ Sandeep Kumar.
AAANHPI events at USC Kaufman School of Dance are generously funded in part by the Lau Family.
