Sara Silkin Joins USC Kaufman to Advance Dance and Filmmaking Dialogue

Silkin brings industry-leading experience in choreography, film, and digital media to DANC 218 this spring.

Sara Silkin, the award-winning choreographer and filmmaker, has joined the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance as a guest teacher for the Spring 2026 semester, expanding on the school’s commitment to the crossover between dance and filmmaking.
Silkin currently serves as the artistic director of the Glorya Kaufman Performing Arts Center at Vista Del Mar. She earned her BA from UCLA and MFA from the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Silkin trained with the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, and her professional experience includes assisting singer and choreographer Barak Marshall and performing with Kitty McNamee’s Hysterica Dance in Los Angeles.
Silkin’s artistic practice spans dance, cinema, digital media, and choreography. She is the choreographer of the Emmy Award-winning short film “Jibaro” in “Love, Death & Robots” on Netflix. Beyond “Jibaro,” her choreographic and movement direction credits include Nike, Samsung, Converse, Sandro, and “Side Quest” on Apple TV+.
In 2025, Silkin won Best Short Film at Dance Camera West for “Lost Mind,” originally commissioned by the L.A. Contemporary Dance Company. In addition to her dance practice, Silkin has collaborated with AI artist Refik Anadol for the LA Philharmonic Centennial at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. She has also presented work at LACMA, The Ford Theater, and The Centre Pompidou. Silkin will be bringing her long-standing teaching and industry experience to DANC 218: Introduction to Dance Media Composition at USC Kaufman.
