The USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance has a two-stage audition process. Candidates must submit two video auditions as a part of their USC Kaufman Portfolio by December 1. Faculty will review the videos and all other parts of the portfolio. Finalists selected by the faculty will be invited to audition in person.
All applicants will be notified of their live audition status by email in mid-December. Finalists will be scheduled for an audition date based upon the preferences they indicated in their USC Kaufman Portfolio. Those who are not selected as finalists for USC Kaufman will still be considered for admission to the University for their other designated major.
All students, regardless of their audition date, will receive full consideration for both USC Merit Scholarships and USC Kaufman dance scholarships.
We are excited to host live auditions in the Glorya Kaufman International Dance Center on the beautiful University of Southern California campus. Only about 25 finalists are invited to each audition day. Auditions will take place in January.
The live audition includes a dance technique class with ballet, contemporary, improvisation and hip-hop. It also includes a solo performance and an interview. There are no cuts throughout the day.
We encourage families to join us for this fun and informative day. It includes various activities, such as a faculty welcome, Q&A session with the Vice Dean and Artistic Director (for guardians), exclusive tours, financial aid presentations, a catered lunch hosted by current BFA students and other opportunities to connect with the USC Kaufman community.
As a part of our commitment to making our audition accessible to all, we will provide stipends to candidates for whom traveling to Los Angeles would present a significant financial burden. The travel stipend will cover the cost of airfare (up to $500) for the candidate only.
More detailed information about the live audition will be provided to finalists in a series of confirmation emails.
