Hank Alpert

Hank, a born and bred New Yorker, received his BS in Economics from The Wharton School of Finance and Commerce at The University of Pennsylvania in 1969, and a JD from Brooklyn Law School in 1973.

Professionally, Hank has been associated with and is currently President of Spartan Petroleum Corp., a commercial real estate company, along with having a 50+ year relationship as Broker of first, Amoco and now, BP Gasoline in the New York Metropolitan Area. Hank is also a longtime member of the Board of Directors of Griffon Corp. (NYSE) and The Boyar Value Fund (a Mutual Fund).

Hank and his wife Gerry are truly bi-coastal, with homes in New York and Venice Beach, as well as a summer retreat in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts.  Wherever they find themselves, the couple are committed members of their communities and engage in numerous philanthropic activities. Hank served as an elected member of the Board of Trustees for the Village of Old Westbury, NY for 18 years. He is also involved with the US Committee Sports for Israel. In Los Angeles, Hank and Gerry have become significant supporters of Project Angel Food, an organization committed to nourishing vulnerable people facing critical and life-threatening illness by preparing and delivering medically tailored meals.

The couple also share a passion for dance and are active supporters of Jacob’s Pillow, the oldest continuous dance festival (90 years and counting) in the U.S., where Hank is an active member of the Board of Trustees.  In addition, they are longtime supporters of Dancers Responding to Aids (Broadway Cares) and have been major contributors to the Hudson Valley Dance Festival in the Catskills since its founding. They also support a number of dance artists and companies, including Dorrance Dance, Elizabeth Streb and Philadanco, among others.  They also support many aspiring dancers each year at The School at Jacob’s Pillow in various genres, including two USC Kaufman students this past summer!

Gerry Alpert is a psychoanalyst in private practice and a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and The New School: A University in New York City.  The couple has two children (David and Brooke) and four grandchildren (Emma, Hollyn, Ellis and Ryder).
