Originally from Yuma, Arizona, Alyssa Janae Myers began her dance training at Yuma Ballet Academy studying ballet and Horton technique under Emma Cong, Kathleen Sinclair and Jon Cristofori. At 12 years old, she joined their pre-professional company, Ballet Yuma, and danced in various classical ballets, as well as in new creations of contemporary works by Carley Conder, Joseph Jefferies and Ashley Walton. During this time, she became captivated by the choreographic process through the collaborative relationship between dancer and choreographer. After spending summers at Houston Ballet as well as Paul Taylor Dance Company, she started her BFA at the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance. Her interest in hybridity within dance styles, musicality and artistic expression was able to blossom as she grew with William Forsythe, Jodie Gates, Bret Easterling and Thomas McManus among others. Upon graduation, Alyssa aspires to join a contemporary dance company that is invested in cultural sensitivity and exploration. She is motivated by the social impact that dance initi- ates through visualization and embodiment of diverse human experiences.
