India Dobbie was born in Sydney, Australia and moved to New York City at the age of five. She is a graduate of the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for the Arts and a proud alumna of Downtown Dance Factory and the MOVE|NYC| Young Professionals Program. She is also a YoungArts National Winner in Jazz Dance and was an inaugural winner of the “Awakenings” Scholarship from the Ailey School.

As a Dean’s scholarship recipient, India is pursuing her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance at the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance. There she has had the opportunity to perform the works of William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, Paul Taylor, Jermaine Spivey, Barak Marshall and Bret Easterling among others.

Additionally, she is working towards her minor in the Dynamics of Early Childhood through the USC Rossier School of Education. India’s work as a performer and educator aims to pay respect to dance’s rich history, while investigating and challenging the future direction of the art form.

Through her work as a teaching artist with Kaufman Connections, as a peer mentor with MOVE|NYC| and as the co-president of the Southern California Choreographic Collective, India strives to use dance as a means for social change and community engagement. The many and varied influences on India’s work, from Sydney to New York to Los Angeles, have molded her into the artist she is today.
