Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Sam Amey has been passionate about artistic expression since childhood, beginning with dance, singing, and performing at home. She trained at Priscilla and Dana’s School of Dance and danced with pre-professional companies Artist Revealed and Defy Dance, where her love for dance as a medium for authenticity flourished.

At USC Kaufman, Sam explored various street and concert styles, emphasizing play in her movement. She performed works by esteemed choreographers such as Kyle Abraham, Bret Esterling, Peter Chu, d. Sabela grimes, and Micaela Taylor. She further honed her craft at workshops like the B12 Performance Workshop with Akira Yoshida and Lali Ayguade’s company, broadening her perspective on how dance can exist within the mundane.

Sam finds peace in expressing emotions through movement, and she draws inspiration from experiences beyond dance. She believes in the power of storytelling through movement and aspires to maintain a childlike curiosity as she evolves in the art form.

Currently, Sam is fascinated by the interplay between the abstract and the real, seeking simplicity and depth in movement that resonates with audiences. She strives to create art that bridges the performer and the viewer, reminding us of our shared humanity and the complexity of identity through artistic expression.
