Kayla Goldsberry was born in California and grew up in Houston, Harlem, Detroit and Charlotte. These different environments instilled a constant search for a diversity of experiences and a commitment to creating a multilayered dance career. Throughout high school, she studied ballet, pointe, contemporary, jazz and musical theater, and honed her ballet and pointe work at intensives, including at San Francisco Ballet, School of American Ballet, Nashville Ballet and American Ballet Theatre.
Kayla is earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance at the University of Southern California’s Glorya Kaufman School of Dance, where she added vernacular jazz, hip-hop and heels to her training. She has performed works by Justin Peck, Tessandra Chavez, William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián and George Balanchine. Her commercial work includes Brandy and Chance the Rapper’s “Baby Mama” music video and Dermalogica’s Clear Start campaign. Additionally, Kayla is completing a Minor in Communications Design at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism and Roski School of Art and Design, using dance, digital media and entrepreneurship in work for dancers such as Candice Craig. In the future, she plans to apply her knowledge of commercial advertising, movement and production to bring her unique perspective to brand design and strategy.
Kayla is dedicated to working as a professional dancer in the commercial and concert dance spheres and on Broadway, and to continue defining her artistic identity across these spaces. She hopes to inspire other dancers to share their unique relationship to dance and stay open to new perspectives to drive authenticity and innovation in the industry.
