The JA Collective — a creative collaborative founded by USC Kaufman alums Jordan Johnson and Aidan Carberry (BFA ’19) — has been selected for LAUNCH:LA, a residency program from L.A. Dance Project (LADP) that supports Los Angeles-based emerging artists and the creation of new work.

Each LAUNCH:LA artist receives three weeks of rehearsal space, monetary support, and production resources to create new dance-centered performances that are presented to audiences at the culmination of the residency.

Hailing from L.A., Johnson and Carberry founded JA Collective while they were BFA students at USC Kaufman. The collective incorporates elements of hip-hop, acting, contemporary movement, and theater as the basis of their collaborations. Recent projects include the choreography for a Belvedere Vodka commercial featuring Future, premiering in 2024, and the movement design for Frank Ocean’s 2023 Coachella set. In late 2023, Johnson and Carberry presented a duet under the direction of and in collaboration with William Forsythe that premiered throughout Europe.

The new work by JA Collective will be presented on January 19–21, 2024, at LADP’s studio space in downtown L.A as part of LADP Presents.
