Kyle Abraham Named 2022 Dance Magazine Awards Honoree

Dance Magazine has named Kyle Abraham, Claude and Alfred Mann Endowed Professor of Dance at the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance, Dance Magazine Awards honoree in 2022.

One of the field’s most prestigious honors, the Dance Magazine Awards recognize artists who have made a lasting impact. Along with Abraham, this year’s honorees include Lucinda Childs, Herman Cornejo, Brenda Dixon Gottschild and Dianne McIntyre. Former honorees also include Mikhail Baryshnikov, Misty Copeland, Donald McKayle, and Michelle Dorrance.

Abraham joined USC Kaufman as an endowed professor in the fall of 2021. Spending six to twelve weeks in residence at USC Kaufman every year, Abraham teaches dance technique, improvisation, composition and repertory. Abraham has also won a 2018 Princess Grace Award and received a 2013 MacArthur Fellowship. He is the Founding Director of A.I.M, an American contemporary dance company. In addition to performing and developing new works for his company, Abraham has been commissioned by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, New York City Ballet, Lincoln Center, The Royal Ballet, Paul Taylor American Modern Dance and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago.

On December 5, 2022, the Dance Magazine Awards ceremony at Chelsea Factory in New York City will honor Abraham.
