Student Reflection: Satori Folkes-Stone

May 22, 2016

BFA student Satori Folkes-Stone feels that her freshman year in the inaugural class at USC Kaufman is summarized by a specific experience, one that embodies the program’s principles: learning Martha Graham’s “Ritual to the Sun.”

“I’d say my favorite experience that I didn’t expect [this year] was doing Helios with Tadej and then after wards with Professor Corbin. Because I had never done Graham before, I really didn’t expect the style to feel so good in my body or to enjoy rehearsing the piece so much, though I didn’t actually perform it. I felt that it was also an awesome bonding experience for all of us, because we spent SO much time in rehearsal, and especially when alternates would get worked into the cast, the sense of community and support was really awesome. Martha definitely helped us grow as a class!”
