The USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance is home to world-renowned faculty and Artists-in-Residence. Throughout the fall semester, BFA students across all four cohorts engage with them in the creation of a new work or existing repertory. Each process culminates in the staging of a work to be performed at the Bing Theatre for the Fall 2024 BFA Showcase, December 5-December 7. In preparation for the end-of-semester showing, excerpts of these works are also performed during the Fall 2024 Works in Progress Remix on October 26.

Shining a light on these artists, USC Kaufman proudly announces seven new artistic processes this fall.

Cohort Based Repertory

The Class of 2028 is currently engaged in a collaborative and exploratory process with USC Kaufman faculty member Amy O’Neal. Simultaneously, the Class of 2027 is working on an excerpt of Jiří Kylián’s Serebande and Falling Angels. Professor Fiona Lummis will be staging these two esteemed works on the Second-Years. The Class of 2026 is currently exploring a rigorous artistic process with distinguished Artist-in-Residence Darrell Grand Moultrie. Concurrently creating and exploring, the Class of 2025 are in process with Artist-in-Residence Micaela Taylor for a new work.

Audition Based Repertory

Earlier this semester, BFAs had the opportunity to audition for three new creations, in addition to the pieces they will be working on with their individual cohorts. USC Kaufman welcomes both Artists-in- Residence and USC Kaufman choreographers to set these three new works.

USC Kaufman BFAs will be joined by Artist in Residence Janie Taylor later this semester, who will work on the premiere of a new contemporary ballet. Meanwhile, Faculty Member Moncell Durden will share his wealth of knowledge through the creation of a new House piece. Additionally, Faculty Member Saleemah E. Knight will showcase her artistry and passion through the curation of a new jazz work.
