USC Kaufman faculty member Margo K. Apostolos is currently working on the last chapter of her first book, “Dance for Sports: A Practical Guide,” which will be published next year by Oxford University Press.
The book summarizes more than 30 years of Dr. Apostolos’ vast experience and research in “Dance for Sports,” which she started in Chicago back in the 1970’s when she was a young dancer. It will be a useful reference for coaches, athletes and dance teachers.

Faculty artist in residence Fiona Lummis is currently working with USC Kaufman’s BFA students on excerpts of choreographer Jiří Kylián’s “Symphony of Psalms.” The piece, which became a cornerstone of Nederlands Dans Theater’s repertoire, combines classical and contemporary technique.

Recognized for his research on African-American social dance, professor Moncell Durden of the USC Kaufman School of Dance will be a featured expert on an upcoming television show in advance of the release of his new book.
Durden was recently interviewed for the second episode of “Body Rocks,” a five-part Chinese television series about urban dance culture.

Our fall 2015 semester was filled to the brim with incredible moments; though it is difficult to pick just 10, here are some of our favorites:
10. USC Welcome Week – our inaugural class of freshmen experienced a true Trojan welcome, complete with a Meet the Dean event on Ramo Lawn featuring liquid nitrogen ice cream and 33 eager faces, a welcome luncheon with our faculty and staff, and our very own private dance party at Tommy’s Place.

On September 1, Glorya Kaufman, Dean Robert Cutietta and Vice Dean Jodie Gates gathered with the BFA students and major dance supporters to welcome choreographer William Forsythe and celebrate USC Kaufman. The event, hosted by Debi and Norris Bishton, Jamie Bishton and Christian Kraus, featured a lively conversation about the school’s distinct vision, unique approaches and advantages as well as Forsythe’s insights on dance training and nurturing the next generation of leaders in dance.
